Jacqueline “Jackie” Gomel, 89, of Maple Hill, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024.
She was born August 19, 1934, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew and Gladys (Woodward) Owen. She graduated from Topeka High School.
Jackie loved working in her garden. She enjoyed having her family birthday parties and holidays. Her hobbies were decorating and painting.
She loved to thrift shop in Wamego, going to garage sales and buying items from QVC.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Haskell Creek Club, the African Violet Club and the Dover Dollies.
In her early years, she worked at Bobo’s Restaurant, she was a league bowler. Jackie enjoyed being outdoors, especially with her boys on their hunting and fishing trips.
Jackie worked for the State of Kansas as a Clerical Supervisor in the Motor Vehicle department until her retirement.
Jacqueline married Kenneth L. Gomel on April 5, 1952. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2007.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Steven) Bundy, Steven (Kathi) Gomel, Bradley (Debra) Gomel, John (Tiffany) Gomel, Christopher Gomel, and Matthew (Dusty) Gomel; grandchildren, Dustin (Marie) Glidewell, Laurie (Thad) Havenstein, Michelle (Michael) Cosie, Wynona (Michael) Nemechek, Heather Gambino, Allyson (Kentrell) Liger, Andrew Gomel, Travis Gomel, Trisha Gomel, Shelby (Caleb) Zachery, Caleb Hunt, Zachary (Morgan) Gomel, Grace Gomel, Hailey Gomel, Savanah Gomel, Logan Gomel, Rebekah Gomel, Dylan Gomel; great-grandchildren, Justin (Robin) Glidewell, Rosie Handke, Marcus Hanke, Jace Havenstein, Michael Cosie, Jr., Kash Liger, Jayden Liger, Anna Sophia Gomel, Damien Lillybridge, Vasalissa Davis, Snow Davis, Atrais Nemechek, Elijah Gersner, and Ezra Gersner; great-great-grandchildren, Eva Louise Glidewell and Jonah Marshall and sister, Mary Jo Finson and various nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth L. Gomel; grandchildren, Jared Glidewell, Aaron Bundy, and Scott Gomel; great-grandchild, Trenton Gomel; siblings, Patricia Finson and Chuck Steele.
A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Parker-Price & Davidson Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service.
