Jacqueline Rae Bush 86, of Meriden, passed away Sunday April 16, 2023, in Seabrook, Texas, after a short illness.
She was born September 27, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Paul H. and Margret (Komer) Burkhead. She graduated from Lillus High School in 1955.
On October 1, 1955 she married her high school love James Vincent Bush in Kansas City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 13, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her brother Vincent C. "Bobby" Burkhead and her beloved dog Calli.
After high school, Jackie received a business degree from Saint Teresa College in Kansas City, now Avila College. She graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelor's Degree in teaching in 1966 and a Master's Degree in reading specialty in 1974. Her first teaching position was 3rd grade at Pauline South Elementary School in Topeka, Kansas. Jim and Jackie moved to the farm in Meriden, Kansas in 1973 where they lived for 47 years. She taught 1st grade at Jefferson West Elementary School until her retirement in 1999. Her passion was teaching and watching the 1st graders discover reading. Her other joys were her family, her many Australian Shepherds and horses, planting her flowers around the farm and tending to them. She found her peace sitting on the front porch with Jim in the evening's looking over their land.
She is survived by her sister Paula Gladden; children Jeffrey "Scott" (Jeanette) Bush and Dr. Stephanie (Dr. Daniel Sr) Streitz; four grandchildren, Rebecca Matthews, Dr. Daniel Streitz Jr. (Laura) Streitz, Dr. David (Dr.Kristine) Streitz, Sarah(Jeffrey) Peterson; great-grandchildren Harrison, Benjamin and Tyler Streitz, Hudson and Avery Streitz, and Hayden and Harper Peterson.
Memorial services will be 11:30 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Interment will be 1:30 PM, Saturday at Meriden Cemetery.
