OBITUARY: Isla Mae Betts
Isla Mae Betts, 79, Topeka, died Sunday morning, Oct. 15, 2006, at Garden View Respite Center. She was born Oct. 13, 1927, at Emmett, the daughter of Clyde M. and Sylvia Mae (Maxwell) Lasswell.
Isla graduated from Emmett High School and attended Kansas State University. She worked for the Santa Fe Railroad; at the State of Kansas where she was Medical Records Administrator at KNI (20 years); King Fahad Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1983-1986); Bethany Hospital in Kansas City (4 years); and retired from Parkview Hospital in 1992. Isla attended Westminster Presbyterian Church; and was a member of Women of the Moose, National Rehabilitation Assoc., and American Medical Records Assoc. (Past President)
Isla was married to Elmer C. Betts on Aug. 20, 1949, at Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Nicholas Betts; and 3 brothers: Marion, Harvey, and Francis "Gene" Lasswell.
Surviving are 2 daughters: Sheri Rice (Ron) of Lenexa and Becky Betts of Topeka; 4 sons: Bill Betts of Cornville, AZ, Max Betts (Mary) of Johnson City, TN, Dan Betts (Diana) of Topeka and Tim Betts (Trisha) of Topeka;a sister Frieda Myers (Bob) of Topeka; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wed., Oct. 18, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery. Isla will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
