Irene L. Robertson, 91, of Topeka, passed away on September 19, 2023 at Stormont Vail Hospital.
She was born on November 29, 1931 to Clarence and Jessie (Roberts) Chitwood, at their family home in Ozawkie, Kansas.
After graduating from Seaman High School in 1949, she married Harold Robertson on December 23, 1950, in Arkansas. Together they grew their family and raised 2 children. Irene worked as a fabric cleaner for Scotch Fabric for 42 years before she retired and was an election worker for many years.
Irene was a member of Brookwood Covenant Church involving herself in their Joy Group from 1964 until their closing. She then attended Grace Point Church until she passed. Irene was a caregiver her entire life. She enjoyed taking care of anyone she could, including her parents. She was a volunteer at McCrite Care Center for over 20 years. Irene took her three great granddaughters with her so they could learn about volunteer work. She enjoyed any moment she could socialize with someone and bring joy to their day. She loved her monthly gatherings with her class of '49 group. The simple conversations are what she lived for because, "that is how you get to know people". Her family was her everything. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Spoiling them, casino trips, vacations to Las Vegas, Kentucky, and her 2-week cruise to Alaska was among her many enjoyments. She also was an avid Chiefs fan and loved to watch baseball. She was a long time member of the Eastern Star. In her younger years she loved to tend to her yard and make it beautiful for others to see.
Irene is survived by her children, Ralph (Erica) Robertson and Deborah (Larry) Busey; grandchildren, Christine Myers, Lisa (James) Butler, Brian (Josephina) Robertson, and Carrie Robertson; great grandchildren, Ashley (Michael) Myers, Nicole (Darnell) Myers, Grace (Dylan) Crawford, Riley (Alyssa) Butler, Brian and Natalie Robertson and Kelsey Butler; great great grandchildren, Jordyn Hill, Luani Hendricks, Henry Hill, and Kylo Hendricks; and her sister, Lois Aushernan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; both of her parents; her siblings, Robert Chitwood, Merle Chitwood, Donald Chitwood, Daryl Chitwood, and Ruth Ann Culbreth; grandson-in-law Jeff Myers.
