Irene Alice "Jeannie" Matney, 89, of Topeka, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011.
She was born January 6, 1922 in Topeka, the daughter of George W. and Lorena (Israel) Bartlett. She was a 1940 graduate of Topeka High School. She was retired from the State of Kansas after 16 years employment.
Irene married Clyde E. Matney on February 21, 1942 in Parsons, KS. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Gary (Jackie) Matney, Dallas, TX; a daughter, Jeannie (Mike) Francis, Topeka; a daughter-in-law, Jaci Matney, Topeka; 4 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a son, Danny R. Matney on February 15, 2007 and a grandson, Dirk Holcomb on December 4, 2003; 4 brothers, Clyde, Evan, LeRoy and George Bartlett; 3 sisters, Isabelle Tevis, Iva Wilcox and Alma Tosh.
A graveside ceremony will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka.
