Howard William Klinefelter
Howard William Klinefelter, 85, died of cancer Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in Topeka. Mr. Klinefelter retired in 1973 as chief engineer of the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center. He later was director of operations at Taylor University in Upland, Ind. He served four years in the Army during World War II. He was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Morley, Iowa, the son of John William and Bertha Lessard Klinefelter. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in architectural and civil engineering. He also completed advanced hydraulics and business management studies at the University of Colorado and the University of Iowa. He held one U.S. Patent. Mr. Klinefelter was a member of Northland Christian Church, Gideon's International, the VFW and he served on numerous boards of directors. He is survived by his wife, Anna Rose Griffith Klinefelter, Topeka. They were married Dec. 27, 1996. Other survivors include three children, Ron Klinefelter, Marble Falls, Ark., Gar y Klinefelter, Iowa City, Iowa, and Connie Davidson, Topeka; as well as three stepchildren; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Arlene Virginia Seaberg Klinefelter, in 1993; his second wife, Marjorie McFadden Klinefelter, in 1995; and two older sisters, Wilma Pieper and Clara Dusanek. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Northland Christian Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military honors conducted by Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the VFW. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's International, P .O.
