Howard Elvin Kunard
Howard Elvin Kunard, 92, Topeka, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Midland Hospice House. He was born August 24, 1925, at Pomona, the son of Lewis Lee and Wilma Alvina (Hoopes) Kunard.
Howard served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He had worked at Kaiser Ship Yards, Topeka Mill and Elevator, Sunflower Ordinance Plant, and for 24 years at Auburn-Washburn U.S.D. 437 as head custodian. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion.
He was married to Eloise Jean Johnson on June 21, 1960, in Topeka. She preceded him on September 22, 2002.
Surviving are six children: Bruce L. Kunard of Topeka, Gregg W. Kunard of Topeka, Rodney A. Kunard of Logan, KS, Jared E. Kunard of Oakland, CA, Larry E. Kunard of El Paso, TX, and Sharon E. Humston of Topeka; siblings: Darrell Kunard and Charlene Marney both of Topeka; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 22, 2018, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, NW 35th and Menoken Road, Topeka.
Howard will lie in state after 2:00 PM, Sunday at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
