Howard K. Day
Howard K. Day, 76, Topeka, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in Topeka. He was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Shawnee County, to R.B. and Edith Kemper Stagner Day. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947. He served aboard the USS Fall River (CA-131). He received the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Day worked for the Topeka Fire Department for 34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a battalion chief at the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M. He married Doris Fern Price on March 23, 1949, in Topeka. She died Jan. 13, 2001. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Karlene June Day. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene F. Weinmann, Atchison; and a sister, Betty J. Lewis, Topeka. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery. Mr. Day will lie in state after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Parker-Price Mortuary, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributio ns may be made to American Heart Association, 5375 S.W. 7th, Topeka, 66616-2395.
