Homer L. Emmot, 76, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011.
He was born Sept. 6, 1934 in Frankfort, KS, the son of Ben and Cressie (Stewart) Emmot. He moved to Topeka six years later, graduating from Topeka High School in 1953. He spent 10 years in the Kansas National Guard and worked 30 years for the Gibbs Clothing Co. until they closed in 1980. He spent the rest of his time selling floor covering until retiring in 1996. He spent his retirement years wood carving and painting landscapes. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
Homer married his high school sweetheart Meredith Andres. He did not know at the time but she was his earth angel. To that union were born four children, all of which were his pride and joy. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Meredith of the home; three daughters, Chariss (Ralph) Duncan, Wichita, Jeanette (Stan) Sanger, Lawrence, Sondra (Doug) Hamilton, Topeka; a son, Darel (Cindy) Emmot, Ft. Collins, CO; a sister, Ardyce Prater, Topeka; 10 grandchildren, Michelle Moreland, Laura Early, Kimberly Duncan, Emily Foster, Kristen Duncan, Jennifer Mitchell, Jeffrey Sanger, Craig Sanger, Martin Emmot and Alan Emmot; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, L. D. "Barney" Emmot, Loran Emmot and Warren "Bud" Emmot.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
