Herbert L. Manger

Herbert Louis Manger, Jr., 87, of Topeka passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022.   He was born at Baltimore, Maryland the son of Herbert Louis Manger, Sr. and Thelma Mae Russell Manger.  He was raised in Maryland.  He joined the service at a young age.  He was a veteran of the Korean War.  He was awarded a bronze star, silver star and two purple hearts.  He served his country for over fifteen years in the Navy, Air Force and Army.

Herbert married Shirley Rae Evans on April 2, 1956 at North Topeka Baptist Church.

Herbert worked for over 40 years as a lineman for KPL before retiring in 1992.  He was a 32 degree mason, member of the Arab Shrine Temple, American Legion Posts at Ozawkie, later Meriden, and finally Post #400 in Topeka.   He was a member of Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW as well.   Herbert kept busy but did enjoy taking time to watch westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies.

Shirley passed away on June 13, 2017.   His brother George and twin infant sister preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children, Debbie L. Woods and husband Mark of Holton, David Manger and wife Susan of Lawrenceburg, TN, Diana Manger of Topeka, Dawn Smith and husband Shawn of Topeka, and Alan Brown and wife Cindy of Haysville; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Graveside services and military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at Mount Hope Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS  66606.   www.davidsonfuneral.com
