Henrietta May Gleason, 85, of Topeka, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012.
She was born August 30, 1927 in Topeka, KS, to Jacob May and Anna Katherine (Wittman) May. She attended St. John's Lutheran School, Holiday Junior High School and graduated from Topeka High School in 1944.
Mrs. Gleason worked in the Car Service Department and Timekeeping Departments in the Santa Fe Offices from 1944 until she retired in 1983.
She was a member of Santa Fe Old Timers Retirees Club, National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE), City of Topeka Retirees Club, American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR), Northeast Kansas Chapter of AHSGR, Kansas State Historical Society, Shawnee County Historical Society Transportation Communications (TCU) Union Lodge #427, and Topeka Coin Club.
Henrietta married Donald Jack Gleason on May 18, 1958 in Hope Lutheran Church in Topeka. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a sister, Alvina Wettengel, Pace, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Henrietta will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sue Days Cancer Resource Center Fund, c/o St. Francis Health Center, 1700 SW 6th, Topeka, KS 66606-1690 or to Midland Care Hospice of Kansas, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
