Helen M. Winter, 97, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022.
She was born February 6, 1925, in Hoyt, Kansas, the daughter of Hamilton D. and Ruth (Colhouer) Kent. She was a 1942 graduate of Hoyt High School.
Helen married Merle "Mike" Winter on June 25, 1943 in Atchison, KS. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1992.
Helen and Mike owned and operated Topeka Sand Company. She continued to operate the business after his death with Kevin Frakes. Her employments also included Prisoner of War and later for Hallmark Cards for 14 years.
She was a life-long member of the Hoyt United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Marie Winter-Zima (Gary Christenson) of Topeka; and two grandchildren, Micah Zima and Garrett Zima.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mildred (Everett) Ostrander, Margaret (Gene) Childs and JoAnn (Harold) Knight; and her nephew, Steve Ostrander.
Helen loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and holiday gatherings.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the Parker Price Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka.
A funeral ceremony will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the Hoyt United Methodist Church, 405 Highland Ave, Hoyt, KS 66440. Interment will follow at Hoyt Cemetery.
