Helen Maxcine Swartz, 91, Gower, MO, formerly of Topeka, passed away in Gower, MO on Monday, July10, 2023.
Helen was born July 6, 1932 in Hamilton, Alabama, the daughter of Arzie Bernice and Carrie Lee Shackelford. She graduated from Paul Haynes Vocational High School in Birmingham, AL.
She was employed as a nurses aide for much of her adult life. Over the course of her career she worked in many different types of facilities including psychiatric hospitals and nursing homes. Toward the end of her career she worked as a home health aide while also caring for her elderly mother.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and studying her Bible. She loved talking about God's word with people.
She was a former member of Countryside Christian Church in Topeka and the Church of Christ in St. Joseph, MO.
Helen married Owen Lee Swartz on March 25, 1955 in Tedrow, Ohio. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage serving the Lord together in six different states. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2022. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Philip and daughter-in-law Jody Swartz. Survivors include sons, Robert (Michelle) Swartz, Savannah, MO, Kenneth Swartz, Shell City, MO, Clarence (Patty) Swartz, Buckfield, ME; daughter, Emily Ruth Swartz, Milan, MO; daughter-in-law, Sue Swartz; 13 grandchildren,22 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence, Topeka, KS 66608. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Helen's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
