OBITUARY: Helen Leona Lederer
Helen Leona Lederer, age 82, of Topeka, passed away, Thurs., Jan. 4, 2007, at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka. She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in Los Angeles, CA. the daughter of James Leonard Pitts and Calla (Frey) Pitts, deceased.
Helen graduated from Valley Falls High School. She married Arthur Eugene Cavey in Oct., 1943. He died at sea during WW II, April 1944. Helen married James E. Lederer on Aug. 6, 1947. He preceded her in death in June, 2000.
Survivors include her children: Jeannie Dillon (James) of Topeka and Cindi Stueland (Terry) of Derby; a son James Lederer (Jeriann) of Meriden; 3 sisters: Shirley Kerr of Ozawkie, and Patty Hermosillo and Alice Brennan both of CA; 2 brothers: Dale Pitts and Ray Pitts both of CA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Catherine Pitts, and a brother, Leonard Pitts, preceded her in death.
Helen adored her family, enjoyed cooking and telling a good joke. She always had a positive outlook and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Her family would like to thank Presbyterian Manor and Midland Hospice for all their loving care.
Funeral will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Jan. 6, 2007, at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Valley Falls Cemetery. Helen will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
