Helen Lee Hester, 79, Topeka, died Monday, January 16, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was born August 4, 1937, at Saltillo, Mississippi, the daughter of Vardaman and Martha June "Sally" (Raines) Hallmark.
Helen moved to Topeka in 1955.
She was married to Billy N. Hester on July 10, 1954, in Mississippi. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1960. She was preceded in death by a son, David Hester, on September 21, 1958; her parents; and a sister, Elizabeth Kennedy.
Surviving are three children: Bill Hester (Sharon) of Auburn, Raymond Hester (Nancy) of Topeka, and Joyce Valliere (Jack) of Tecumseh; three nieces who she thought of as daughters: Shelley Walker (Daniel) of Phoenix, Arizona, Adina Rittenhouse (Tim) of Auburn, and Kristie Hammond (Rick) of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren: Trisha Mosley (Tom) of Harrisonville, Missouri, Tonya Vignery (Brad) of Lyndon, Raymond Hester (Trish) of Topeka, Billy Hester (Katrina) of Auburn, and Bryan Hester (Charity) of Auburn; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Caleb Hester, MacKenzie Hester, Mariah Taylor, Katelyn Taylor, Noah Brown, Tommy Mosley, Kinlee Mosley, Adam Mosley, Joey Mosley, Abby Vignery, Dakotah Vignery, Joshua Vignery, Raelee Hester, and Kruz Hester.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 20, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Interment will be in Rochester Cemetery, 1200 NW Menninger Road, Topeka.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral chapel.
