Helen Marie Carlson, 85, Topeka passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Midland Hospice House surrounded by family. She was born April 11, 1920 in Harlan, Iowa the daughter of Nels P. and Grace Robinson Hansen.
Helen was the first woman graduate from the Topeka Barber College. She owned and operated her own barber shop in Pauline. She loved flowers, crocheting, red birds, canaries and family.
She married Lawrence D. Carlson, April 11, 1941 in Harlan, Iowa. He died November 24, 1988.
Helen was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Una Fayetta Carlson.
Survivors include two daughters: Elsie S. Gibeson, Carbondale; and Ellen Strickler, Abilene, TX; two sons: Albert B. Carlson, Tecumseh; and Donald E. Carlson, Tinley Park IL; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel. Interment will be in Lynn Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Carlson will lie in state from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel 245 NW Independence Ave.
