Heinz Jurgen Salke
Heinz Jurgen Salke, 76, Topeka, Kansas formerly of Hutchinson, Kansas, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was born January 7, 1937, in Danzig, Germany, the son of Karl and Gertrud Anna (Zirra) Salke.
He retired in 1976, from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He retired from the State of Kansas Department of Corrections in 1996.
Heinz was married to Hiltrude Maria Hess on January 3,1958, at Kaiserlautern,Germany. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2008, after 50 years of marriage.
Surviving are two daughters: Iris Phipps of Topeka, Kansas and Sylvia Salke of Hutchinson, Kansas; a son: Ralf Salke of Jefferson City, Missouri; a sister: Gisela Hutchison of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend: Gloria Martin of Macon, Georgia.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, Kansas, with military honors conducted by a Fort Riley U.S. Army Honor Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800.
