Hazel Pauline Smith-Tindall, 93, of Topeka, passed away on November 15, 2020 at Morningstar Care Home.
She was born on August 19, 1927 to William A. and Leota K. (Mundy) Shaw their home in Harveyville, Kansas. She attended a country #7 grade school and the Harveyville Rural High School, graduating in 1945.
Hazel worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue as a supervisor of the Cigarette & Miscellaneous Tax Unit until she retired in August 1993 after 37 ½ years of service.
On April 6, 1946, she married Frank Smith. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1991. She married COL Robert F. Tindall, Sr. on September 7, 1997. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2008.
She was a member of the Southwest Baptist Church where she served as Church Treasurer for many years, taught kindergarten Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, BYF Coordinator, was in Choir, and White Cross Chairman. She transferred her membership to the Westside Baptist Church in April 2012, she was still a member at the time of her passing; memorial contributions may be made to the church in Hazel's name.
Hazel was active in the Topeka Chapter of Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) with her husband Bob. Together they assisted with putting the memorials in at Gage Park and all over the state of Kansas, as well as rewarding scholarships to JROTC high school students all over the United States.
Subsequent to a critical accident in 1993, Hazel was in Stormont Vail Hospital from February until May in critical care. During that time a prayer chain was started involving people all over the world and wrapped around the world two times. She was a testament to the power of prayer working, by December she was fully recovered, other than a collapsed lung.
Hazel was very independent and sometimes outspoken, but she was always very friendly with everyone she met and she always tried to be fair. She was the glue that held her family together.
Hazel enjoyed crocheting, needlecrafts, and growing plants indoors and outdoors.
Hazel is survived by her daughters, Catherine L. Olsen and Marlena J. Baldwin; sister, Helen V. Robson; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith; second husband, Robert F. Tindall Sr.; son, Ronald E. Smith; parents, William and Leota Shaw; siblings, Kenneth Shaw, Dale Shaw, Elmer Shaw, Gladys Mickulichek, and Albert Shaw; and brother-in-laws, Loren Robson and Gordon Mickulichek.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Parker-Price Funeral Home, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS. Visitation will be the hour prior at 12:00pm.
