Harvey Edward Lister, 90, Topeka, died, Feb. 8, 2011, in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Maple Hill, the son of Lee A. and Ada L. (Cheuvront) Lister.
Mr. Lister after graduating from Dover, KS high school moved to CA and was employed at Douglas Aircraft. While there, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and was stationed in Egypt for most of his military career. After returning home he married Lois A. Smith Aug. 30, 1947, in Topeka. He worked for Morrell's and Goodyear before becoming a Television Repairman, eventually opening his own shop, "Crest Appliance and TV Service." Harvey enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseshoes, gardening, and was a member of the Bulldozer Camping Club, and Gage Park Baptist Church. What made him the happiest was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. Lots of time was spent singing old time tunes to them.
Harvey was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Mayme Haller, Edna Dudney-George, Lela Lister, Velma Moran, Thearon Lister, and Herman Lister. Also great-grandchildren: Braden Lackey and Ella Cook.
He is survived by his children: Darrell & Julie Lister, Terry & Brenda Lister, Karen & Richard Hockett, and Kevin & Karen Lister; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Feb. 12, 2011, at Gage Park Baptist Church. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Dover Cemetery. Harvey will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
