Harry Joe Evans
Harry Joe Evans, 79, Topeka, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at a Topeka hospital. He was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Hartshorne, Okla., the son of Armstead and Thelma Mitchell Evans. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Joe Evans Jr. He married Verna Dugas on Aug. 8, 1948, in Orange, Texas. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Gail, and her husband, Raymond Padilla; a daughter-in-law, Patti Evans; grandchildren, Michael, Brian and Nicole Evans, and Christopher and Eric Padilla; and three great-grandchildren; also a brother, Jack Evans, and his twin sister, Mary Laura Dickute. He was a member of Iron Worker Local No. 10 and Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery, where Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM, will conduct masonic graveside services, and a funeral detail from Fort Riley will conduct military honors. Mr. Evans will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Kitchen Fund, 227 S.W.
