Harry Joe Evans, Sr., 79, Topeka, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at St. Francis Health Center Topeka.
He was born November 12, 1924, in Hartshorne, OK, the son of Armstead and Thelma Mitchell Evans. He moved to Valley Falls, at the age of two and attended Valley Falls public schools. He served in the United State Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of Iron Workers Local #10 and Topeka lodge #17 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Grahem-Herbers Post #3084, V.F.W. of Valley Falls, Topeka North Post #400 of the American Legion, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Valley of Baltimore Orient of Maryland and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Valley of Frederick Orient of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by a son Harry Joe Evans, Jr.
He married Verna Dugas, Aug. 8. 1948 in Orange, TX, she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Gail and husband Raymond Padilla, daughter in law Patti Evans, grandchildren Michael, Brian and Nicole Evans, and Christopher and Eric Padilla, three great grandchildren. A brother, Jack Evans and twin sister, Mary Laura Dickute.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in North Topeka.
Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery where Lodge #17 A.F. & A.M. will conduct masonic graveside services and a funeral detail from Ft. Riley will conduct military honors.
Mr. Evans will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
