Harold S. Allen

December 23, 1925 — February 8, 2012

Harold Seth Allen, 86, Valley Falls, KS, died Wed., Feb. 8, 2012, at Linnwood Park, Meriden, KS. He was born Oct. 23, 1925, at Thurston, NE, the son of Seth Thomas B. and Mable E. (Wilson) Allen. He attended high school in Thurston and moved to Valley Falls in 1944. Harold was a U.S. Army Veteran. He worked in power line construction across the U.S. and in Indonesia. Harold was a member of Meriden Lodge # 236, AF & AM; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; and Arab Shriners. As a young boy his father taught him to play the fiddle and he continued that heritage. He was Oregon State Champion Fiddler and placed 2nd in the National Fiddlers Contest along with placing high in many other competitions across the U.S. Harold was married to Shirley A. Arthur on Nov. 24, 1955, at Valley Falls. They were divorced. Surviving are a daughter: Linda Jane Bain (Steven) of Valley Falls; two sons James D. Pence and Steven W. Pence; 3 grandchildren: Matthew Bain (Amanda) of Glendale, AZ; Carrie Belveal (Jason) of Valley Falls; and Katie Bain of Valley Falls; 3 great-grandchildren: Ruthie Bain, Connor Belveal, and Wesley Belveal; 2 brothers: Roy Allen of Valley Falls, and Tom Allen of Helendale, CA; 4 sisters: Eunice Osburn of Cathedral City, CA, and Lois Kientz, Evelyn Allen, and Patsy Frommer all of Valley Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Mindy Bain; brothers: John, Donald, Richard "Dick," and Lloyd; and sisters: Doris Moore and June Brown. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Sat., Feb. 11, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, followed by Rose Croix services conducted by Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies. Meriden Lodge # 236, AF & AM will conduct Masonic Graveside Services at Valley Falls Cemetery. Harold will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Falls Rescue Squad, EMS 11, P.O. Box 66, Valley Falls, KS 66088 or Shriners Hospitals for Children Travel Fund c/o Arab Shriners, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612-1332.
