Harold M. Forrer, 91, of Topeka, went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 20, 2013.
He was born May 12, 1921 in LeLoup, KS, the son of John and Otie (Miller) Forrer. He was a graduate of Ottawa High School, Ottawa, KS. He resided in Ottawa until moving to Topeka in 1946.
Mr. Forrer was employed by Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka for 37 years, retiring in 1981.
He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Topeka, where he served as Business Manager from 1981 to 1998 and Deacon.
Harold married Agnes Marie Sassaman on May 24, 1942 in Ottawa, KS. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2004. Survivors include three children, Rosine (William) Feist, Birmingham, AL, David (Sheila) Forrer, Holiday Island, AR and Madeline (Terry) Ribble, Scranton, PA; eight grandchildren, Paul (Dawn), Deborah and David (Angela) Feist, Pamela (Marty) Green, John M. (Mindy) Forrer, Tanya (Andy) Powers, Shawn (Britany) Ribble and Lisa (Brian) Biegert; 12 great-grandchildren, Samantha Duran, Christopher, Jennifer and Daniel Feist, Emily and Andrew Green, John Charles, Sarah and Leah Forrer, Elena and Joseph Biegert and Charlotte Ribble; and a daughter-in-law, Madeleine Forrer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Stanley H. Forrer and two brothers, John and Ernest Forrer.
A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013, the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at the Rochester Cemetery, Topeka. Harold will lie in state after 3 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N.
