Dr. Harold L. Martin
Dr. Harold L. Martin, 81, of Topeka, passed away, Sunday, December 18, 2005, at Stormont-Vail Hospital. Dr. Martin was born in Topeka, Kansas, January 23, 1924, the son of Lewis A. and Cecil N. Edmundson Martin.
Prior to graduation from Seaman High School in 1943 he passed the exam for the Navy V-12 College Officers Training Program. He was stationed at Kansas University and enrolled in Electrical Engineering, then transferred to the University of Miami, Oxford, Ohio. After graduation from Navy Electrical School he was assigned to the USS Columbia CL 56 and served as a Petty Officer in the electrical division in the Pacific Theater. He received an honorable discharge at the Naval Station in St. Louis, Missouri.
After returning to Topeka and entering Washburn University, he was engaged in the insurance business. He later entered Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, transferring to and graduating from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri.
He returned to Topeka where he was in private practice for many years.
Dr. Martin was a member of a number of professional and fraternal organizations.
He married Beth Shields Hamm, June 17, 1961. She survives at the home. Other survivors include two sons, Harold Lee Martin Osburn, Rick L. Martin Osburn, stepsons, Kevin D. Hamm, Noel F. Hamm, a stepdaughter, Dana Baughman, five granddaughters, seven step grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Martin and a stepson, Douglas J. Hamm.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2005, at Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Martin will lie in state after 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, where the family will greet friends that evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. .
