OBITUARY: Harold Arthur Burgess
Harold Arthur Burgess, 90, Topeka died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Colmery-O'Neill V.A.M.C., Topeka. He was born Jan. 25, 1915 in Topeka the son of Thomas A. and Maggie M. (Barber) Burgess.
Harold served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years prior to and during World War II being discharged on Oct. 2, 1945. He was on the following destroyers: Gatling, Brazos, and Wilkes.
He was a member of Plumber and Pipefitters Union for 57 years. He was a life member of Arcadia Masonic Lodge # 278 of Calif.; Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies; Arab Shrine Temple; Tin Can Sailors; and D.A.V.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Arnetta L. Burgess of the home, Topeka; children: Becky & husband, Mel Gros of Topeka, Tom Burgess & wife, Evie, of Excelsior Springs, MO, and Linda Herbert of Parsons, KS; step-children: Connie & husband Mike Emery of Valley Falls, Keith Gillespie & wife Diane of Topeka, and Kelly Tolbert of Topeka; Grandchildren: Treyton & Loren Gros, Michelle & Rob Emery, Dustin, Ashley & Sarah Gillespie, Kyia & Sara Burgess, Kim Starks, Alexis Sanchez, Phoebe Canon, Jamie Baumgartner, Jennifer Bauman, and Jody & Jeff Brandenburgh; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wed., July 13, 2005 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Reserve Center of Kansas City, KS.
Memorial contibutions may be made to the Arab Temple Travel Fund for Shriners' Children's Hospitals, 1301 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612-1332.
