Harold "Bill" "Pop" William Beckwith

Harold "Bill" William Beckwith, 89, of Topeka, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2022 at Stormont Vail Hospital with his son and daughter by his side.

He was born on January 15, 1933 to Paul and Jennie (Martin) Beckwith in Topeka, KS.
Bill graduated from Meriden High School. After graduation he went to serve his country.

On March 12, 1973 Bill married Jessie Beckwith (Hughs).

Bill served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1953. At age 18, Bill was originally thought as killed in action, but later it was found out that he was a POW. He was released on August 15, 1953. During his time serving, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, POW Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, and the United Nations Service Medal. He served for 3 years before being honorable discharged.

Bill loved to read western books, watch John Wayne movies and old westerns. He also would love to "go up North" and visit the casino. He loved his lottery tickets. In his earlier years he enjoyed to be outside and fish. Bill was a family man that loved to spend time with his family and his cats.

Harold "Bill" is survived by loving wife, Jessie; children, Peggy (Bruce) Forbes, Annie Beckwith, Ron (Ann) Romesburg, Don Romesburg, Jennie (Glen) Pruitt, Linda (Rick) Munoz, Daniel (Jancy) Romesburg, Becky Moore-Robeldo, Becky (James) Adams, Glenda McCanliss, Lonnie (Tina) Beckwith; 45 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren, and 6 Great Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; children, Danny Beckwith, Delbert Dean Romesburg, and Billy Miles Beckwith; siblings, Larry Beckwith, Brian Beckwith, Ron Beckwith, Robert Beckwith, Jim Beckwith, Dexter Beckwith, Mina Sherretts, Katherine Fosdick, and Pauline Reser; granddaughters, Stephanie Romesburg, and Danielle Romesburg.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Parker-Price Funeral Home in Topeka, Kansas. Funeral service will follow, starting at 11:00 am. Graveside service will follow at the Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation and sent in care of Parker Price Funeral Home.
