Harold E. Dilley
Harold E. Dilley, 92, Topeka, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Woodland Health Center in Topeka. He was born July 1, 1911, at St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Edgar and Emma (Bartling) Dilley. He lived in St. Joseph from 1911 to 1944, in Lawrence from 1945 to 1951 and in Topeka since 1951. Mr. Dilley was a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, where he served as secretary, deacon and teacher of Sunday school classes. He attended Lafayette High School, and graduated in 1936 with a Master of Arts degree from The University of Kansas. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Dilley taught at Lafayete High School, before becoming a History instructor at KU from 1945 to 1951. He taught in Topeka Public Schools from 1951 to 1974, at Topeka High School and Roosevelt Jr. High. He married Lorene E. Kipp on June 5, 1935, in St. Joseph, Mo. She died Dec. 15, 1994. He was also preceded in death by a son, Frank Dilley, who died Oct. 20, 2001. A host of family and friends survive. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo. Mr. Dilley will lie in state at Penwell-GabeL Parker-Price Chapel from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
