Harley Ellsworth Elkin, 96, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014.
He was born July 27, 1917, in Quenemo, Kansas, the son of John M. and Etta (Bane) Elkin. He was a graduate of Melvern High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WW II.
Mr. Elkin was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 38 years, retiring in 1982.
Harley married Alice E. Johnson on March 10, 1946 in Melvern, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Harry) Christman, Meriden and Martha Elkin, Topeka; a granddaughter, Lori (A.D.) Berry; and a great-grandson, Connor Berry. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Lee Elkin, August 7, 1962 and two sisters, Mabel Failor and Wyona Elkin.
Harley enjoyed working in his workshop.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, to go in procession to Rochester Cemetery for a graveside service with military honors.
