Harlan May, 81, of Overbrook, passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side on Monday, October 9, 2023.

He was born October 13, 1941, in Vienna Township (Onaga), Kansas, the son of Chester and Evelyn (Wilson) May.

Harlan had a passion for playing horseshoes. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the K-State Football team. When he wasn't outside or watching sports, you could find him traveling to visit family, friends, and playing in horseshoe tournaments. He competed in several World Horseshoe Tournaments across the United States.

He was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America, leading Troop 240 in Olathe, KS and helping his son, Scott, earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Harlan was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus at Prince of Peace Church in Olathe, KS.

In his professional life, he spent more than 20 years working as a computer programmer for the Santa Fe railroad. He later spent many years working on banking software for several large banks in the Kansas City area. He was directly involved in the updating of computer software to solve the Y2K bug.

Harlan absolutely cherished his time with his friends, family and his grandkids. He was a very social man and was loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor and his joy of woodworking.

Harlan married Annette Hegwood on Oct 6th, 1973. She preceded him in death in 2012. He later married Ruth Magor in 2018, she survives of the home. Other survivors include his son, Scott (Katie) May; step-children, Greg (Dana) Klingbeil, Renee (Jason) Phillips, Lisa (Brian) Grasman, Lori (Mike) Ellison, and Randy (Heather) Klingbeil; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and sister, Brenda McClain. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Evelyn B May, Father, Chester I May, Brother, Charlie May, Sister, Lois Crummey.

The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Parker-Price Cremations, Funerals, & Receptions 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka, KS 66608.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Fellowship Bible Church 6800 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66615. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka 801 Westchester Road, Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Horseshoe Association (where Harlan was a member and avid supporter), towards the completion of their planned indoor horseshoe facility. Checks can be made out to: "Parks for All Foundation"
