Mary "Grace" Thompson Goodnow, 103, entered into her heavenly home on November 26, 2023. Grace was born on November 15, 1920, in Donalsonville, Georgia, to George and Hattie Thompson. Her family lovingly referred to her as their Georgia peach. Grace was met in heaven by her husband, Clinton, her parents and her siblings - Margaret, Carroll, Lee, Mark, John, Joy and Gladys, as well as a host of friends.
Grace married Clinton Goodnow on April 8, 1951. They had two sons - Wally (Cathy) Goodnow and James Goodnow. Her 4 grandchildren blessed her with 10 great-grandchildren - Matthew (Kylie) Goodnow [Dylan, Derek, Charles, Henry, GraceLynn], Andrew (Brandy) Goodnow [Jack, Evey, Alli], Sarah (Craig) Schuer and Rachel (Jeremy) Keefer [Jayce, Jenelle].
Grace worked side-by-side with Clinton in their home construction business. She kept the books and many times wielded a paintbrush to help with the home Clinton was building. She and Clinton built both of the homes they lived in after they were married. Their sons assisted them in the building of the second home.
Grace's hobbies included stamp collecting, crafts, painting, and quilting. Many family and friends were blessed with her beautiful creations. She also loved genealogy, tracing both her family and the Goodnow family back many generations. She wrote three books containing the genealogical information she had discovered and shared that information with family.
She was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church and spent countless hours in service to the church and the community. She served in whatever capacity the church needed - teaching Sunday school classes, rocking infants in the nursery, serving countless meals for church functions and singing in the choir. She helped make many baby quilts that were donated to Doorstep.
Grace loved her flowers, especially roses, and enjoyed watching the many birds that would come to the bird feeders in her yard. She enjoyed camping and traveling with her family.
Grace will be remembered for her witty humor, creativity, kindness, gentleness, and love. Memorial Contributions may be made in her honor to Westside Baptist Church.
