Gordon L. Wing, 76, Topeka, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1928 in Mayetta, KS the son of Clarence Frank and Anna Pearl Young Wing.
Mr. Wing graduated from Denison Rural High School in 1946. Gordon served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He worked in the Research and Materials Laboratory for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 36 years before retiring May 1989. Gordon worked as a grounds keeper for the United Methodist Retirement Home.
Mr. Wing was a member of First United Methodist Church, life member of Topeka North Post #400 of the American Legion, life member of Philip Billard Post # 1650 of the V.F.W. He was a Scout Master for Troop #69 Countryside United Methodist Church. He later taught Scout Adult Training Classes for the Jayhawk Area Council of Topeka.
He married Doris "Camille" Jones, March 1, 1947 in Holton, KS. She died March 1, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Baker, Topeka; two sons, Terry Wing, and Tim Wing, both of Topeka; a brother, Merlin Wing, Shawnee, KS; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Wing was cremated. A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Klasse Chapel of First United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery.
