Gordon East
SCRANTON - Gordon East, 82, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Scranton, Kan., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, in the Boise Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1922, at Lancaster, Ky., to Lilburn and Margaret Carrol East. He met Martha Gaines and they married at Goodland, Kan., on Dec. 23, 1943. He drove a truck for North American Van Lines of Topeka for 25 years, and then worked 11 years for the State of Kansas School for the Blind before retiring. Surviving are his wife, Martha, Boise; two sons, Eugene East and Monte East, Las Vegas; a daughter, Colleen, and her husband, Randy Mart, Las Vegas; four grandsons; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; one sister; Juanita Benjamin, Cincinnati; three brothers, Naaman and Orville Fletcher, both of Cincinnati, and Ray Fletcher, Opp, Ala . Gordon was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen East, and his parents. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Penwell -Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by a Fort Riley funeral detail. Mr. East will lie in state after 3 p.m. Monday at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.penwellgabel.com .
