OBITUARY: Glenn Howard Swank
Glenn Howard Swank, 95, Topeka, formerly of Meriden, died Wed., July 11, 2012, at Homestead Assisted Living. He was born April 14, 1917, at Topeka, the son of Ernest and Hattie L. (Kennel) Swank. Glenn graduated from Mayetta High
School in 1935, and received a Bachelor of Arts from Washburn College in 1950. He taught at Burlington High School one year and worked for the State of Kansas for 39 years in the Department of Revenue and KDOT, retiring in 1982. He had lived and farmed at Meriden for 55 years, moving to Topeka in Feb., 2006. Glenn was a member of the Meriden United Methodist Church and was an active member of the former Meriden Kiwanis Club where he was president and secretary. He was Lt. Gov. for Dist. 11 of the Kansas Kiwanis District. Glenn was married to Ida B. Metsker on Nov. 11, 1944, at First Christian Church, Topeka. Surviving are his wife: Ida of the home; children: Warren (Kathy) of Meriden, Gregory H. (Sherri) of Plano, TX; Deborah L. Swank of Topeka, and Paul A. (Brenda Bauman ) of Topeka; grandchildren: Nathan (Kayla), and Aaron; Thomas and Jennifer; and Leah, Joseph, Hannah, and Rebekah; and great-grandson: Landyn Adams. Private interment will be in Meriden Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM, Sat., July 14, 2012, at Meriden United Methodist Church. Glenn will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Fri., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., Topeka where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
