Glen R. Hess

March 14, 1931 — June 24, 2020

Glen R. Hess was born in Madison, Kansas on March 14, 1931, the son of Carl and Gladys Hess.  Glen was the youngest of four siblings, his sisters Marjorie and Dorothy and brother Clair preceded him in death.

Glen served in the United States Army 23d Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. Glen was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Bronze Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation for his service. Glen completed his bachelor’s degree in education at Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia.  Glen worked in Occupational Therapy at the Veterans Administration in Topeka, Kansas for most of his career, retiring after 30 years of service in 1991.

While in Emporia, Kansas Glen met and married Lola B. Irey on May 26, 1957.  Glen and Lola recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Glen and Lola raised two daughters, Jennifer Glynne Babin and Julie Anne Hess. Julie preceded Glen in death. They also enjoyed five wonderful grandchildren: Alyssa and Katelyn Bauer (Jennifer), Joshua, Jessica and Jordan Perez (Julie), and one beautiful great granddaughter, Jacie Perez (Joshua).

Glen was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  His grandchildren enjoyed lots of fishing adventures with him in their youth.  Glen was known for his clever wit, gentle kindness and boundless love.

A Celebration of Life service for Glen will be scheduled at a later date.
