OBITUARY: Gladys Marie Smith

Gladys Marie Smith, 80, Topeka, died Wed., Sept. 23, 2009. She was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Arkansas City, the daughter of Earl I. and S. Maybelle (Taylor) Christensen. She was a graduate of Topeka High School. Gladys retired from the Animal Health Department for the State of Kansas. She was a member of Northland Christian Church and TOPS Club. She was married to Stephen E. Smith who preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter: Kristen Denton (Richard) of Topeka; a son: Patrick E. Smith of Topeka; a step-daughter: Stephanie Cook of Lawrence; a step-son: Stephen E. Smith III of Greenwood, MO; a sister: Esta Christensen of Topeka; and 4 grandchildren: Stephen Denton, Caitlin Denton, Danielle Smith, and Donovan Smith. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Mon., Sept. 28, 2009, at Northland Christian Church. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. Gladys will lie in state after 1:00 PM, Sun., at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northland Christian Church, 3102 NW Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66617.
