Gladys Geraldine "Geri" Schwalie, 80, of Topeka, passed away January 20, 2012.
She was born July 9, 1931 in Osawatomie, KS, the daughter of Gerald Russell and Celesta C. (Hayes) Vale.
Gladys was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka for 41 years, retiring in 1992.
Gladys married Raymond G. Schwalie on August 26, 1948 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Shaw, a son, Greggery Ray Schwalie, and a sister, Virginia Long. Survivors include her daughter, Teresa A. Schwalie, Topeka; 3 grandchildren, Samantha, Mandy and Lakisha; 2 great-grandchildren, Justice and Trinity and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Gladys will lie in state after 3 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Teresa Schwalie.
