Gerye Alan Butler, age 68, of Auburn, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Gerye was born May 22, 1950 in Topeka the son of Boyd Butler and Geraldine McMahan Butler. He graduated from Carbondale High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 – 1975. He married Barbara A. Schuman March 25, 1977 in Topeka. Gerye was a member of the Auburn Christian Church. He worked for the State of Kansas and later for Southwest Publishing. Gerye was a K.U. Basketball fan as well as the K.C. Chiefs. He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Barbara of Auburn; a son, Brett Butler of Topeka; two daughters, Mellissa (Chris) Lewis and Chrystal Butler, both of Auburn; a brother, Gerald Butler of Topeka; a sister, Cindy Hasty of Meriden and five grandchildren that he loved very much, Nathan, Kyle, Johnny, Alayna and Mya.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Auburn Christian Church. Casual dress is encouraged. He will lie in state Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Davidson Funeral Home with visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Auburn Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Christian Church Food Drive and left in care of the Davidson Funeral Home. davidsonfuneral.com.
