Gertrude L. Sherwood, 81, Topeka, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at a Topeka care center.
She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Topeka, to William L. and Alta Arnold. She worked in dietary services at the Veterans Administration Hospital for several years and at Kansas Neurological Institute. She spent most of her life in Topeka.
She attended Oakland Church of the Nazarene.
She married Chester D. Sherwood on Aug. 31, 1946, in Topeka. He died May 13, 1989. A daughter, Patty B. Stovall, died Dec. 18, 1999.
Survivors include three sisters, Juanita Riley, Lawrence, Alice Fleck, in Michigan, and Dixie Lee Dodson, address unavailable; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden Chapel at Topeka Cemetery. Burial will be in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Sherwood will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Parker-Price Mortuary, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m.
