Gertrude Elizabeth Bailey, 98, of Topeka, passed away peacefully in her sleep June 15, 2007 in Topeka. She was born April 22, 1909 in Clyde, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Alonzo Howard and Marion Margaret Broadfoot Howard.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1927. She worked for A.T. & T as an operator for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and Telephone Pioneers.
She married Daniel Joseph Bailey, September 18, 1927 in Independence, MO. He preceded her in death February 7, 1945.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Russell Howard and Gilvie A. Howard.
She is survived by her son Daniel Joe Bailey, Sun City, AZ; her sister, Maxine Howard Wege, Oklahoma City, OK; two grandsons, Daniel Brooke Bailey, Gillette, WY. and William Paul Bailey, Mesa, AZ; and two great-grandchildren, Colin Daniel Bailey and Catherine Clare Bailey both of Gillette, WY.
Graveside services will be held Friday, June 22, 2007 at eleven o'clock AM at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Church.
