Gertrude Anna Bowser passed away on 21st January 2024, in the age of 91 years in Topeka, Kansas.
She was born on 10th May 1932 in Gießen, Germany. Gertrude was raised on a farm in Nieder Gemünden, Germany at her adoptive parents home. Gertrude was baptised 1946.
She went to a regular school in her hometown in Germany and in the late 1940s she started to work in a hospital in the town where she was born. In this town she got to know Cliff in 1952. Cliff was based as a United States soldier for the Army in Germany. Gertrude and Cliff were falling in love with each other and Gertrude decided to leave in 1953 with Cliff to the United States.
Gertrude married Cliff 1956 and shortly afterwards she became a United States citizen. Gertrude was very fond of traveling. Among other things, she traveled with Cliff to her native Germany to visit her family. She also traveled to countries such as Mexico.
Gertrude and Cliff bought land and they built their home together in Topeka, Kansas. After their divorce, she started to work in the veterans hospital in Topeka.
She was a hard-working woman with a big heart. One of her most important life partners was her dog Daisy. She loved her with all of her heart. Gertrude was a honorary member in a pet home. She became honored by helping with donations.
Besides her animal hobby, one of her biggest hobbies was her garden. She took great care of her home more than anyone else. She was really proud of her beautiful home.
In 1992 Gertrude married her second husband, John. John was a United States veteran. He served many years in the Army and also fought in the Korean war in 1953. John was in need of care and Gertrude took care about him until he died 2006.
Gertrude was a social person and she surrounded herself with a lot of friends. She also enjoyed coffee at the monthly meeting with her friends from the German community. After Gertrude retired, she was able to devote herself entirely to her garden and her dog Daysi at home.
Services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Redemption Center Church 1017 NW Gordon St, Topeka, KS 66608. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Leavenworth National Cemetery next to her husband John.
