Gerald "Jerry" Payne

Gerald "Jerry" Payne passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020.

Jerry, the only child of Harry and Irene Payne was born on his family farm north of Axtell. They later moved to Axtell where Jerry graduated from Axtell High School. He then moved to Topeka beginning work at Capper Publications. While at Cappers he met and married Arlene King. They had 3 children, son, Jerry (Bonnie) Payne; daughters, Susan (Michael) Cheruka and Teresa (Chris) Christiansen; two grandchildren, Jared (Debra) Payne and Lynsey Payne; and great granddaughter Sawyer Payne.

Jerry served in the Army and Army reserve from 1957 to 1966. Jerry then worked for the State of Kansas in the Purchasing Division as one of the buyers, retiring in 1993 after 34 years. Jerry was a master mason, a VFW member, a life member of Post 400 American Legion and former Moose member.

Arlene passed on December 16th 1997 and Jerry remarried in 2000 to Donna Benson. She survives of the home. Also surviving are her 3 children from a prior marriage, son, Lonny; daughters, Vickie and Donna, Jr. and 4 grandchildren.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, and one infant daughter Shirley Payne.

At his request there will be no formal funeral but he will lie in state at Parker Price Funeral Home, Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Graveside service will be Monday, December 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m at Rochester Cemetery in Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or to the American Legion Post 400.
