George Carter

George Vincent Carter, 96, Topeka, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at a Topeka care center.
Mr. Carter worked in construction in Topeka and was involved in building Topeka High School and the Topeka Boulevard Bridge. He later worked at the Supply Depot for 10 years and he had a dairy route for 10 years. He also was a cook for the Harvey House from Newton to Chicago for 10 years.

He was born Nov. 6, 1906, in Topeka, the son of Benjamin Frank and Viola Louise Loveland Ford. He was adopted at the age of 5 by Wilma and Effie Carter and attended school in Ozawkie. He lived in Valley Falls and Ridgeway, Mo., before returning to Topeka in 1930.

Mr. Carter was a member of Moose Lodge No. 555, the Eagles Lodge and the Topeka Gem and Mineral Society.

He married Margaret Viles on Sept. 19, 1934, in Topeka. She died May 29, 1979. Mr. Carter also was preceded in death by a son, Clyde H. Curtis, on April 14, 2000.

Survivors include a granddaughter.

Committal service and burial of cremains will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery.
