OBITUARY: George S. Corbin
George Samuel Corbin, 85, Topeka, died Fri., April 4, 2008, at Midland Hospice House. He was born Feb. 27, 1923, at Mission Creek in Wabaunsee County, the son of Robert and Mildred Mae (McCauley) Corbin.
George served in the U.S. Army Air Corps (1942 to 1946) during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 37 years of service, in 1983. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Golden Rule Lodge # 90, AF & AM, Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion, and a life member of the DAV.
He was married to Freda Arlene Kitt on May 29, 1947, in Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Vivian Wild and Sarah Justice.
Surviving are his wife: Freda of the home; a daughter: Sheila Kay Hill (Laro); 2 sons: Robert F. Corbin (Sandi) and Ronald George Corbin (Sandy) all of Topeka; 2 sisters: Lucille Clark of Maple Hill and Joan Frazier of Topeka; 7 grandchildren; Michelle (Todd) Shiner, Marci (Thomas) Miller, Allison (Brandon) Nelson, Robyn (Brian) Devlin, Collin (Sara) Corbin, Laurie Alejos, Rodney (Crystal) North; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Wed., April 9, 2008, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. A Fort Riley U.S. Army Detail will conduct military honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. George will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tues., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
