George McVay Allison
George McVay Allison, 83, Grantville, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Hospital's Emergency Room. He was born January 3, 1931, in Topeka, the son of Roy Ray and Christina Mae (Hopkins) Allison.
He served in the U.S. Army – 1948 to 1950 in Okinawa, and rejoined the Army Reserve in 1973. He served for a total of 22 years. He was a welder by trade. George had owned and operated Allison House Movers from 1947 to 1967. He was then employed by Essex Wire (Maintenance), Jeffrey Energy Center (Boiler Maker), Hamm Construction, Keim Truck Lines, and Reser's Fine Foods (Trucking). After retirement he became the neighborhood handy man, helping anyone who stopped by. George was a member of Topeka North Post # 400 of the American Legion. George was a life-long lover of animals, especially horses.
He was married to Ernestine "June" Dauber on July 12, 1958. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2000.
Surviving are his "lady-friend" Lee Colgrove of Tecumseh; children: Ernest Allison (Toni) of Meriden, Linda Allison of Grantville and Denise Flick (Brent) of Meriden; three grandchildren: Matthew Allison (Bobbie), Sarah Allison, and Isaac Flick; and three great-grandchildren: Alex Allison, Brook Allison, and Chayse Allison.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. Military honors will be conducted at Grantville Cemetery.
George will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
