OBITUARY: George Howard Blush, Sr.
George Howard Blush, Sr., 84, of Silver Lake, KS, died Fri., July 7, 2006. He was born July 13, 1921, at Silver Lake, the youngest son of Van Rensselaer and Cora (Bellman) Blush.
He lived in Silver Lake his entire life and was a farmer and raised Galloway and Angus cattle. George graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1940. He became a member of First Baptist Church in Silver Lake on Aug. 24, 1935, and had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He was the Menoken Township Representative on the Shawnee County Extension Board in 1967 and 1968.
George married June Snavely on Feb. 14, 1954, in Silver Lake. They were blessed with two children, George Howard Blush, Jr. and Susan Marie Blush-Runyan. George loved to work, keep old cars and machinery in working order and still had every car he had owned, including his first, a 1930 Chevrolet.
Survivors include his wife, June, of the home; a son, George, Jr. and his wife, Laurie; a daughter, Susan Runyan and her husband, Rob; and 5 grandchildren: Amanda Blush, Aaron Blush, Austin Blush, Matthew Runyan and Autumn Runyan, all of Silver Lake.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wed., July 12, 2006, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Interment will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. George will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Tues., at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
