George Edward Spotts
George Edward Spotts, 84, Topeka, KS, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 8, 1931, at Mound City, KS, the son of James Lewis and Mary Catharine (Foltz) Spotts.
George graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1949. He joined the US Army in July, 1949, serving in the Korean Conflict and receiving an honorable discharge as a staff-sergeant in November, 1952. He started his career with the US Postal Service in December, 1953, retiring on July 19, 1983.
He was a member of Oakland Church of the Nazarene and had helped build the church building. George was also a member of American Legion Post # 421 (life-member); NARFE, Chapter 2; and National Association of Letter Carriers.
George was married to Flora Elizabeth Hartzell on March 15, 1955, in Topeka.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Flora, of the home; five daughters: Pamela Garrison (Joe) of Topeka, Bethel Davidson (Clarence) of Topeka, Rhonda Spotts of Topeka, Denise Spotts of Olathe, and Yvonne Spotts of Topeka; several cousins; and a host of friends. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka. American Legion Post # 421 will conduct military honors at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Avenue, Topeka.
George will lie in state from 3:00 to 8:30 PM, Thursday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606-2800 or the charity of the donor's choice.
