OBITUARY: George Vernon Chiles
George V. Chiles, 78, Topeka, died Fri., June 8, 2007. He was born Sept. 20, 1928, at Lecompton. George served in the U.S. Army 1946-1948 and was a member of Capitol Post # 1 of the American Legion. He worked for Sears for 35 years.
George was married to Edna Pautz in 1951. Surviving are his wife, Edna, of the home: two sons and daughters-in-law: George W. "Wes" and Eva Chiles of Topeka and Ralph and Gail Chiles of Roundup, MT; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Roy, Harold, and James; and 3 sisters: Wanda, Mildred, and Frances.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM, Tues., June 12, 2007, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence. A Fort Riley detail will conduct military honors at Rochester Cemetery. George will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Monday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, Tuesday.
