Geneva May Green Cantrell Rosser, 89, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at the Linnwood Home Plus Nursing Home in Valley Falls.
Services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 19 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave., with Rev. George Bardsley officiating. Interment will be June 20, in Grand Island City Cemetery, Grand Island, NE, next to Geneva's first husband.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral chapel Wednesday evening.
Mrs. Rosser was the second child of five born to Clyde H. Green and his wife Ruth Tinker Green. She was born September 26, 1918 in Polk, Nebraska.
Geneva graduated from Polk High School in 1936 and soon after met Clyde R. Cantrell whom she married July 31, 1938 in Polk, NE. To them five children were born - Barbara, Dale, Raymond, Marilyn and Clyde "Lee". During their marriage Geneva and Clyde lived in Polk, Grand Island, and Central City, NE; Knoxville and Kingston, TN; as well as Emporia, Parsons, and Topeka, KS.
Geneva mainly was a stay-at-home mother while the children were growing up. During those years she enjoyed being a Cub Scout den mother, a room mother while the children attended the Rice Elementary School, chaperoning the children's different activities in school, being a member and officer of the PTO and Rice Booster Club. She sold Stanley Home Products in the 1950's and then in 1958 she worked for the American Linen Company in Topeka. In 1964 she went to work as a saleslady at Pelletier's Department Store.
Geneva and Clyde were members of the Shawnee Boat and Ski Club and they also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dancing. She was quite a seamstress and a gardener.
On March 8, 1968 Geneva lost her husband.
She worked for Capper's Weekly for 14 years until her retirement in 1983.
She married Willis "Bill" G. Rosser on December 11, 1990. They enjoyed playing cards, dancing and traveling throughout the United States and Hawaii. They lived in Garnett, KS until 2005 when they went to live with Bill's daughter and her husband, Ruby and Chuck Bradley in a home overlooking Lake Perry. In August of 2007 Geneva moved to the Linnwood Home Plus in Valley Falls, KS because of her declining health.
Mrs. Rosser is survived by her husband, "Bill", of Ozawkie; her five children & their spouses, Barbara & Rudy Arellano of El Monte, CA; Dale and Shirley Cantrell of Carbondale, KS; Raymond & Jeannie Cantrell of Wichita, KS; Marilyn & Bob Cordill of Shawnee, KS and Lee & Joyce Cantrell of Olsburg, KS; eleven grandchildren-Forrest, Stacie & Warren Burke; Nicky Neri; Richard, Joshua, Caleb & RaeAnn Cantrell; Nicki Beadle; Brian and Tod Cordill and fourteen great-grandchildren as well as two stepchildren, six step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Vie Munn of Central City, NE and Arlene Eklund of Bradshaw, NE; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Green of Aurora, NE and Cora Krape of Ozawkie, KS and many nephews and nieces. A brother, Homer C. Green, and a sister, Virginia Glatter Rumery predeceased Geneva.
