Gary L. Sides

Gary Lee Sides, 76, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016.

He was born February 1, 1939, in Marysville, Kansas, the son of Harvey and Cosmo (Thompson) Sides. He was a 1957 graduate of Marysville High School. He served in the Navy.

Gary was employed by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 2002.

He was baptized in the Marysville Lutheran Church and was a member of the Rubber Workers Union Local No. 307.

Gary married Betty L. Rhodes on July 4, 1965 in Marysville. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter, Nicole D. (Brian) Kesler, Mayetta; two sons, Lonnie Lee (Trisha) Sides and David A. DeVorss, all of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Cody Bond, Cassandra Sides, Paige Blank, Gary Sides, Brianna Kesler, Christopher Sides, Nalanie Kesler; two great-grandchildren, Kaydence and Kyle Sides; his brother, Harvey D. Sides, Arkansas; his sister, Judy Schroller, Marysville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary liked to share stories of his military service. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's events, playing golf and going to the casino.

A funeral ceremony will be 1 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. At his request the casket will be closed. Interment with military honors will follow at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka. Gary will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
