Gary Ray Hildreth

March 17, 1937 — March 4, 2022

Gary "Shorty" Ray Hildreth, 84, of Ozawkie, passed away on March 4, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.

Gary was born on March 17, 1937 to William and Clara (Clare) Hildreth in Lake City, IA.
He graduated from Jolley High School in Iowa in 1955.
On June 12, 1955 Gary married Lorraine Hildreth (Anderson) in Jolley, Iowa.

They later moved to Omaha, Nebraska and Gary started business school. They had their first son Alan. Gary and Lorraine then moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Together they grew their family while Gary started his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He was transferred to Topeka where he was a front runner in the evolving data processing industry. He retired with Goodyear after 30 years of service. After retiring from Goodyear, he started work as the vault manager for Mercantile Bank which is known as US Bank today.

Gary was an avid golfer that loved to be outdoors. He and his wife lived on Village Greens Golf Course for 37 years. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He was his grandchildrens' biggest fan, and would always be there to support them. Gary would love his evening walks with his wife every night after dinner. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lorraine; children, Alan (Charmaine Lucas) Hildreth, Randy (Nexelina) Hildreth, Cynthia (John Blue) Hildreth-Blue, Shelley (Bill Wells) Carlow, and Jennifer (Troy) Chadwell, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and his brother, Dennis Hildreth.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Ray Hildreth, Jr. and both of his parents.

Funeral services for Gary will be private.
